PNGTube Online

Basically, PNGtube Online is a flexible, online tool that lets you set up you and your friends' animated character avatars for import into OBS or another streaming program.

In more words, PNGTube Online is a tool I work on in my free time, mostly for streaming TTRPGs. You can upload your own art to use as an avatar, which reacts to your voice, hotkeys, and any other triggers you set up in the tool's editor. My goal is to make PNGtube as flexible as possible while maintaining the lowest possible barrier to entry, which is why it's hosted online and requires no downloads!

PNGTube Online is a one-man development team and always a work in progress. If you run into any bugs or would like to see a certain new feature, let me know! This was created primarily for the TTRPG group Horror and Harpy, and we have a channel in our Discord for PNGTube Online suggestions. It's also a great place to ask for help with setting up your PNGtuber, and we have a few guides there for advanced things like frame-by-frame animating states with smooth transitions. Currently, PNGtube Online features many of the bread-and-butter functionality in most vtuber softwares, alongside multiplayer capability. PNGtube is always evolving! Check out the changelog for more information.

Beta 1.0 (4/7/2022):

• Add characters to the site database
• Join rooms with friends by using any matching room ID
• Enter an existing character's name to join a room with that avatar
• Audio monitoring determines whether or not a character is speaking by an adjustable frequency level
• Avatars change between talking and idle images depending on this threshold
• Avatars blink randomly once every 1-3 seconds to avoid creepy, even blinking
• 10 different avatar animations available, including things like "bounce" and "fear"
• CSS generator for OBS

Beta 1.1 (11/03/2022):

• User Accounts, so only you can use/edit your PNGtuber
• Character load in rooms, rather than on page load
• Multiple States using the new Advanced State Editor
• New triggers for state changes (hotkeys, toggle, volume)
• New site design!

Beta 1.2 (11/15/2022):

• Improved default blink
• New editor triggers (timer, random)
• Removed auto-backedges for a more customizable State Editor (aka the Circle Update)

Beta 1.3 (11/23/2022):

• Made state edit current values for name and image copy-pasteable
• State editor can now scroll and resize itself automatically

  • Fixed initialization not happening upon selecting "New Character"
  • Fixed PNGtubers not updating when their state doesn't have any animations

• Added grouping flags to Volume triggers to give the slider more functionality
• Improved support for gif sources
• Added trash collection to the character save
• Fixed connectivity issues with observer OBS sources

Beta 1.6 (2/14/2023):

• Added macros to make handling complex avatars easier
• Added button triggers
• Added animations to triggers (moved "Do a Little Jump" here!)
• Added global animations to triggers that can shake up the whole party
• Implemented Discord volume sync for controlling a volume flag
• Improved room UX:
• Added scrolling for rooms with many avatars

Beta 1.7 (2/18/2023):

• Added UI for macros
• Fixed bug with data loading/saving older characters
• Fixed a number of bugs with how states updated within macros

1.0 (2/28/2023):

• Created the New User's Guide on the home page
• Fixed some use case issues with autosave
• Improved client-server communication performance

• Fixed macro states occasionally overwriting base editor states
• Fixed a visual glitch when loading a character in while an editor already exists
• Strengthened duplicate node name search to prevent some logic issues
• Fixed a bug with the Discord bot not liking characters with spaces in their names

1.1 (3/21/2023):

• Improved the look and feel of the volume sliders
• Added UI to change the name of macros
• Added error messaging for incorrectly formatted input for path triggers
• Added Manage Character menu to copy, delete, rename, and transfer ownership of PNGTubers

1.2 (9/28/2024):

• Beta release of the View page: simplify streaming by organizing your layout IN PNGTube!
• Assign avatars to slots that can be freely moved around the page
• Resize avatars in slots; no need to make sure they're all the same size when uploading
• "Next Turn" button that advances all avatars 1 slot, intended for use as a turn order visualizer
• Setup in PNGTube, add only a single broswer source to your stream tool
• Temporarily shelved Discord bot due to connectivity issues and disuse
